Soft skill qualification for project manager

Four individuals, named Nobody, Somebody, Anybody and Everybody were working on an important project. Somebody made sure that Everybody had a task to do, which Anybody could do as well. But something went wrong somewhere when Nobody forgot to do a particular task. This made Somebody really mad because Anybody could have done the job.
Everybody thought that Anybody would take care of it while Nobody had hoped that either Everybody or Anybody would remember to do it. As things turned out Everybody blamed Somebody for assigning the task to Nobody, since Anybody or Everybody could have done it in the first place.

In order to avoid such situation, Project team and a Project manager should have the so called soft skills. Project’s success often depends on such skills, which can be divided into 4 general fields:

  • Leadership
  • Communication
  • Cooperation
  • Creativity

Our program integrates all four.

Leadership
Project Leader’s role is to motivate and solve conflicts among employees, whom are formally his subordinates. Project leaders with highly developed soft skills engage team members in decision making process, are able to ignite enthusiasm and engagement, are persuasive and bring out the best in people.

Communication
Effective communication is crucial in team work. Information flow has to be flawless so that the team understands its goals and ways to achieve them. Effective communication depends on interpersonal skills – ability to talk directly, giving feedback, getting in touch, leading constructive discussions.

The team
Sports prove that teams are most effective when every member understands their role and knows the positions of other players. Cooperation in complex projects is based on the exact same mechanism. Everyone is equally responsible for the project’s success of failure. This is why it is so important for every team member to be able to define their position based on their skills and personality, and to understand what is involved with it.

Creativity
Every Project needs constant verification of the objectives, as well as specific solutions, as well as looking for novel, original ideas. This is why creativity is so important for designers, engineers and managers.
