Cooperation and trust

„Houston, we’ve got a problem”.

This moment started a dramatic rescue action to save the crew of Apollo 13. A tank with liquid oxygen used for generating power exploded. Poisonous carbon dioxide levels started increasing in the air the crew was breathing.

Back in Houston the main engineer gathered his team around the table on which he put everything the astronauts had available in the ship. They needed to make a carbon dioxide filter. And they managed to do just that by connecting a plastic bag, cardboard manual cover, a hose from a spacesuit, a duck tape and a sock. It wasn’t a piece of art, but it worked. Cooperation of the crew and the NASA team on the ground saved the astronauts’ lives. Thanks to the trust and cooperation of the two teams, the astronauts safely got back home.

Today in order to succeed one needs to have great relationship skills. Decision making and creative problem solving processes need to have many people involved. The key is the skill of building a cooperation network and establishing trust because this way we gain access to the total knowledge. Relationships based on cooperation are valuable for every organization not only because they result in a better product and a smoother process; such cooperation results in positive energy, enthusiasm and passion.
